Short practical course QFIELD en QGIS for tree specialists and park managers
Are you using Excel sheets or paper maps for your Visual Tree Assessment (VTA)? Would you like to do that more efficient and do you consider digital mapping? Follow then this practical training in QGIS and QFIELD, the free and open source Geographical Information System.
During this course you will learn the basics of desktop QGIS in combination with the mobile app QFIELD. You will learn to prepare a mobile GIS project. We will go outside to gather (tree)data using QFIELD on an android/apple device. Then we will proceed inside to process and manage the data. We will also make different (printable) thematic maps.
The course will be given by Yves Martens, who has been working many years in the combined field of forestry, tree management and GIS. Combined with his educational skills, he will teach you what you need, to start your own GIS projects.
After this course you will be able to:
- Prepare a QGIS project in combination with QFIELD
- Gather (tree)data outside with QFIELD and tablet/phone, we will make a short VTA
- Process the field data with QGIS and deliver thematic maps
- Manage your digital (tree)data, photo’s and share the result with others
Skills needed
Basis computer skills
Bring your own: Windows Laptop or Macbook with QGIS 3.22 LT installed; Android/Apple tablet or phone with QFIELD installed. A clear instruction for installing and preparing your computer and mobile device will be sent to you, two weeks before the start of the course.
